Zoetendal Akademie / Academy was established in January 1997 by the Struisbaai / L’Agulhas community under the guidance and leadership of Mrs Celia Lourens.
The school’s name was taken from the Zoetendal, a wooden sailing ship that was stranded on Struisbaai shores in 1673.
Zoetendal Akademie / Academy follows the South African National Curriculum with personalized additions to benefit the growth and development of each learner.
Learners are taught in a small intimate classroom environment so that they can receive the personal attention they need.
Formal assessments are as per the norm and the Grade 4 to Grade 7 exams happen bi-annually. The Grade 3s and 6s also do the annual systemic tests monitored by WCED (Western Cape Education Department).
The school participates in Conquesta Primary School Olympiads, which is a multiple-choice quiz which challenges learner knowledge in the various subjects on offer
Zoetendal Akademie / Academy is aware that creativity is the main driving force behind progress which is why pupils receive ample opportunity to participate in various cultural activities. These include praise & worship, Eisteddfod and Sanlam art competitions. The school’s arts and cultural activities include:
Zoetendal Akademie / Academy provides a variety of sporting activities for pupils and although there are occasional competitions with other schools, the main emphasis is on having fun while keeping fit. The school’s sporting activities include:
Zoetendal Akademie / Academy generates funds through various events and initiatives to raise money for items on their wish list.
