Outdoor Adventures in Stanford

Stanford might appear to be a sleepy countryside village but make no mistake there are wonderful outdoor adventures available for families, friends, couples and corporate groups alike. While the town itself is tranquil and quaint, it’s surrounded by mountain landscapes to explore and the ebb and flow of the Klein River to enjoy. Nature lovers can embark any of the following exciting adventures!

Easy-going travellers and adrenalin-junkies can both enjoy quad biking around the Stanford areas. You can set your own pace as a nature lover and really take in the scenery or speed things up for an exhilarating ride. You will be fully briefed on the safety protocols required from all riders regardless.

Alternatively, the 4x4 trails are a little more geared for those looking to get the blood pumping and this area boasts some of the best mountain routes in the Overberg. You can also travel a bit and tackle the dunes on the coast, a really good idea during whale season as you’re sure to spot the Southern Right Whales frolicking in the bay.

For those who’d love the opportunity to take to the skies, there are scenic flights available in Stanford. These offer an unrivalled chance to appreciate the contours of the majestic and rugged landscapes in this part of the Cape.

Stanford also offers lazy river cruises and kayaking along the winding bends of the Klein River and the nearby Klein River Lagoon. Whether you choose to relax on a cruise or tackle the water on a kayak, you’ll love the experience of seeing the changing colours over the mountains during a sunset. This is renowned as the best time of day as you’re sure to be mesmerised by the Overberg skies as the sun retreats and the stars come out.

This part of the Western Cape is renowned for incredible hiking, biking and even horse riding trails in some of the most amazing mountain and coastal locations. Stanford offers access to the best of both! Whether you’re dusting off your hiking boots or saddling up for a horseback tour, it will be a memorable and exhilarating experience for nature lovers. One usually has the chance to explore and discover features like caves and waterfalls along the way.

Stanford is known for it's conservation efforts that include ventures such as a Big Cat Sanctuary. The sanctuary provides a safe haven for large cats that have been rescued from illegal breeding programs, circuses and zoo's. Educational visits to this non-profit organization are highly encouraged by tourism and the sanctuary represents the overall proactive role the community of Stanford play in protecting the environment.

With so much to do and so much to explore and experience, it’ time to pack your bags and discover your favourite Stanford outdoor adventure!
